Reason I joined the committee: I enjoy helping the community to develop the younger generation’s knowledge about their culture and history.

Education: Qualified Carpenter

Work: I worked as a carpenter through my years. I have worked on large and small projects alike and was always a trusted and well respected worker.

Interests/Hobbies: While carpentry was my work, it was also a hobby for me. Travelling around the world and visiting new countries. Spending time with family.

Unusual facts: I once worked on a building project inside British parliament.

Arvind Devshi Patel


Name: Mr. Arvind Devshi Patel

Birth place: Madhapar

Reason I joined the committee: I helped out the Membership desk when KMK first introduced annual membership in 1991. A year later, I joined the Committee as an advisor and a year after that I became KMK Treasurer.  Currently, I am a Trustee. I am very proud of our community in the UK. Joining KMK has given me an opportunity to give something back to the community I come from.

Education: Chartered Certified Accountant

Work: I have worked in an accountancy practice for over 30 years..

Interests/Hobbies: I enjoy watching sports on TV. I also like horror movies.

Unusual facts: I was once a Treasurer of SKLPC. At the same time, I was also a Treasurer of its biggest affiliated Gaam – Madhapar.

Govind Kanji Hirani


Name: Mr. Govind Kanji Hirani

Birth place: Nairobi

Reason I joined the committee: My desire to join the Committee was based on wanting to serve the Madhapar community.  I joined the KMK Committee as a co-op member, then took the post of a Treasurer from 2006 – 2008 and now I am a Trustee.  I feel honoured to be a member of a great team of volunteers dedicated to serve Madhapar community.

Education: I studied in India and did a B.Com Accountancy.

Work: I started worked as a train guard on the Bakerloo line for 3 years.  I then joined the Post Office counters in 1979 and worked there for 21 years. I later joined Harrow Council in 2004 as a “meals on wheels” delivery driver and retired finally in 2014.

Interests/Hobbies: I enjoy watching and listening to programmes on modern history and politics, particularly those featured on Radio 4.

Unusual facts: I was always reminded to slow down when out and about with the family.  Now it is the other way around.  I also helped run the SKLPC senior citizens group from 2000 - 2004.

Khimji Shamji Gorasia


Name: Mr. Khimji Shamji Gorasia

Birth place: Madhapar

Reason I joined the committee: I have been with KMK Committee for fourteen years as a volunteer, Advisor, Secretary and now a Trustee to serve the community. I feel we should make every possible effort to make sure our youngsters are aware of our rich culture, values, traditions and religion so that they do not forget their roots and be proud of being an Indian..

Education: Matriculation in India. City and Guilds in Radio, TV and Electronics in London

Work: Worked with Marconi as Airborne Communication Service Engineer for eight years, and then as Camera Service Engineer for Canon for thirty years.  I have recently retired.

Interests/Hobbies: DIY, Keep Fit and traveling.

Unusual facts: Reading about different religions, sects and culture and how it provides the platform to unite people and how science is linked with religion.

Lalji Shamji Gorasia


Name: Mr. Lalji Shamji Gorasia

Birth place: Madhapar

Reason I joined the committee: I believe that every individual has an obligation to contribute to their community in whatever way, big or small, they are able to. I have been fortunate to have done this for over 48 years. From 1968 to the present day I volunteered for several community organisations and specifically in Kutch Madhapar Karyalaya (UK) Committee firstly as an assistant treasurer (3 years), Assistant Secretary (6 years), General Secretary (5 years), President (11 years) and for the past 6 years I've been a Trustee. Volunteering has been a very rewarding and extremely enjoyable part of my life and why I still continue to serve Kutch Madhapar Karyalaya through my retirement years.

Education: I studied at Alfred High School in Bhuj, India and successfully passed the Gujarat Secondary School Certificate Examination Board exams.

Work: My first job was working at the Government of India Office in Bhuj. I then moved to England and have worked at Philips Electronics as a tester, Assembly Supervisor/Manager at Scantronic Alarms, a Team Leader at Tesco supermarket and have now retired.

Interests/Hobbies: I like reading, and doing exercising like Yoga.

Unusual facts: I have celebrated Diwali at the Houses of Parliament and met the comedian/entertainer Bob Monkhouse!
